Best walks in Wales
With its famous valleys and challenging peaks, Wales is a wonderful destination for a walking holiday.
And wherever you choose to stay in the country, you'll never be far away from a truly spectacular trail.
That's because the best walks in Wales aren't concentrated in one area – they are spread out right across this green and pleasant land; from Swansea in the south to the northern tip of Anglesey.
Below is our view on some of the best walks in Wales – let us know your own favourites at twitter.com/icegrips.
The Brecons Horseshoe
Whether you're an experienced hiker or looking for a gentle Sunday stroll, the Brecon Beacons National Park is has a series of trails to suit your ability.
For serious walkers, take on the 'Brecons Horshoe' – a challenging trek that takes in Corn Du, Fan y Big, Cribyn and Pen y Fan (the tallest peak in the park, and indeed in the whole of Southern Britain).
It's a tough 6 hour walk, but you're rewarded with dramatic, imposing scenery – and the sense of achievement at scaling three of Wales' tallest peaks.
Pembrokeshire coastal walks
If you care more for coastal scenery than mountain ranges, then you'll find some of the best walks in Wales to be those along the Pembrokeshire coastal path.
There's almost 200 miles of it – but pick any stretch and you're almost certain to come across unspoiled, deserted beaches and wild coastal vistas. You'll also find some beautiful stop-offs in the region's fishing villages and towns.
All of which helps to explain why the Pembrokeshire coastal path is one of only 15 'National Trails' in England Wales – another being the popular Offa's Dyke.
Anglesey
Any area that holds an annual walking festival must be worth a visit for hikers! Anglesey does just that, and with good reason.
Its coastal path spans 125 miles and leads walkers through a mix of wild heath, dunes, craggy cliffs and woodland. Look out to sea and you might even spot sharks and dolphins – not to mention one of the many shipwrecks that line the coast.
Coastally, you'll also find some of the best walks in Wales down south in Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsular.
Mount Snowdon
No list of Wales best walks would be complete without a mention for the nation's tallest peak. Snowdon also dwarfs anything England has to offer, so scaling it is rewarding in the extreme.
There are numerous paths to the top, each offering their own take on the beautiful surrounding scenery.
