Council proposes free Ice Grips for winter
As more and more people come to realise the huge benefits of ice grips for shoes, one local council is proposing to issue free ice grips to older residents this winter.
Kirklees Council in West Yorkshire is seeking the green light on a scheme to give free ice grippers to a group of over 50s in Huddersfield. The scheme will help to reduce the number of ice-related injuries when hazardous weather hits the area.
The pilot project – named Walking in Winter Safely – will launch with around 60 volunteers, but could be extended throughout the whole West Yorkshire area if it proves successful.
Here at Ice Grips, we’re delighted to see such initiatives. Not only will they help to reduce the number of hospital admissions at an already busy time, schemes like this also play a crucial role in getting elderly people out and about in winter.
Hopefully we can avoid a repeat of last year’s wintery scenes whereby people took to crawling on all fours just to avoid slipping!
Of course, at present the scheme is limited to a tiny corner of the UK – if you’re not in Huddersfield you can still get your ice grips from the Grip Store!
